Julia Fiona Roberts was born in Atlanta on October 28, 1967 in the home of Betty Lou Bredemus and Walter Grady Roberts. She comes from the fourth Roberts family that resided in Atlanta. It started with her grandfather John Pendleton Roberts who was an agriculturalist. Her father took an early interest in the theater. He performed on his Emory University campus in 1952 and in other productions in Atlanta. In 1953, he enlisted in the Air Force and while stationed in Biloxi in Mississippi, he acted in a show with Betty Lou Bredemus. In 1955, they got married and their child Eric Anthony was born. Walter went to Tulane University New Orleans Louisiana following his departure from the Air Force in 1957. Walter worked for Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio. In 1960, the family relocated in Decatur Georgia. Walter along with Betty Lou produced a Saturday morning show on local television for children known as Bum Bum and His Buddies in 1964. This was a project they self-financed. They also founded the Actors and Writers Workshop in the same year, which lasted 6 years. The couple also had two children. Lelisa Billingsley (1965) (also known by the name Lisa) and Julia Billingsley (1967) (also also known as Julie).
